Hi, I'm Kate!

Creative copywriter, brand voice expert and professional hype girl. I've loved writing for as long as I can remember. Primary school stories. High school essays. A Bachelor of Communications in Creative Advertising at uni. And finally, a copywriter job at a major agency.

It was supposed to be the dream (it wasn’t).

I burnt out so badly I vowed never to have a “normal” job again.

Here’s what the next 15 years looked like.

I said goodbye to toxic agency life and went freelance. I loved it! It wasn’t long before I became the lead writer for a major community bank.

2012

I enrolled at the Floral Art School of Australia. I needed a hobby, something creative and mindful that I could do separate to work (or so I thought).

2013

I made…a choice. I decided to open a flower shop with zero experience working as a florist. The one thing I did know? How to build a brand. I painted everything bright yellow, and went hard against the grain of what every other florist was doing. It worked

2015

Within a year, the AFL was calling me to pitch for the finals flowers contract. (Spoiler: I won it and held the contract for 3 years). I became the go-to gal for weddings and events across Melbourne, and worked with brands like Priceline, Kikki K and One Fine Day.

2016

I had my first baby, a little boy. I continued to build my business with him in my lap and on my back. Somewhere along the way I launched a second flower business — Little Ups. This time focused on cheery flower deliveries to support mental health.

2017

I welcomed baby number 2, a girl! Then COVID shut the whole flower industry down. I sat with everything I'd built and asked myself the only question that mattered: what do I actually want to do, now that I get to choose?

Back to freelance copywriting I went to figure it out.

2020

Our family grew by one more, and my career path became clear. The answer was always copywriting, but not the version I'd left behind. I went back to writing, this time at home, on my own terms, and under my own name. And so, Kate Jolly was born.

2024

Kate Jolly is what happens when fifteen years of agency, freelance, and founder experience meet a creative all-rounder who actually likes people. I write copy that sounds like the best version of you on a good day, build brand voices that hold up when you're not in the room, and prove that joyful and serious aren't opposites. I’m a person who can see the whole picture and then write the words to bring it to life. And I’d love to be on your team.

2026

I’m not like most copywriters.

You'll never catch me writing to a formula. I don't start with keywords or "frameworks" either. I write from the feeling first. I'll always ask you how you want people to feel when they experience your brand, then work backwards from there.

I’ve been a freelancer and a founder, which means I see brands the way my clients actually live them (as living, breathing creative projects, not just the marketing definition of a brand). That's why I love working with small businesses and solo creatives so much. I’m one of them.
